What is Reiki?

Reiki Jin Kei Do: Spiritual Energy in the Way of Compassion and Wisdom

Reiki (pronounced Ray-key), an ancient Japanese healing art, has become a well-known healing technique throughout the world and is now being integrated into many traditional health care settings. Essentially, ‘ki’ energy that is transmitted through the practitioner’s hands facilitates the body’s natural ability to heal.

Reiki sessions promote deep relaxation and transformative healing because the treatment always works for the highest good by innately guiding the energy wherever it is needed.

It is not affiliated with any religion and does not diagnose or cure medical conditions, but it is a safe, spiritually-based system of energy healing that works to balance physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.

An excellent complement to conventional medical treatments and other health care modalities, Reiki sessions typically last 60-90 minutes. While the client is fully clothed on a massage table or chair, the practitioner contacts specific Reiki hand positions beginning at the person’s head or feet. A recipient of Reiki might feel heat or a tingling sensation and a deep tranquility that reduces stress and anxiety.

Reiki sessions can also be offered at a distance.

From iarp.org: “Reiki is the life energy that flows through all living things. Reiki Practitioners understand that everyone has the ability to connect with their own healing energy and use it to strengthen energy in themselves and help others. It is believed that a person’s “ki” or energy should be strong and free flowing. When this is true a person’s body and mind is in a positive state of health. When the energy becomes weak or blocked it could lead to symptoms of physical or emotional imbalance.

A Reiki session can help ease tension and stress and can help support the body to facilitate healing on all levels – physical, mental, and emotional. A session is pleasant and relaxing and is often utilized for one’s personal wellness and not just for an illness."

Reiki Jin Kei Do and Healing: This lineage of Usui Reiki is a subset of a broader system of ancient healing known as Buddho/EnerSense, which is comprised of ancient techniques from Tibet and India. It includes specific meditative techniques, breathing and meditative exercises to develop awareness to subtle energy. Click here for more information about Buddho/EnerSense
